Updated 8/2025

We currently have over 2200 valid housing applications in our system. We receive many questions regarding the availability of apartments and the status of the housing application. Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Are there any apartments immediately available?
Immediately available apartments are not shown on our website. Studios, 1-bedroom-apartments and 2-bedroom-apartments which become available in August 2025 have already been rented out. We have some rooms in shared apartments available quickly, so if you are still looking for an apartment from Tampere in August, apply for a room in shared apartment.

How are tenants selected?
We make all tenant selections based on the housing applications, so all applicants must submit an electronic housing application on our website. We consider the reasons for needing a new apartment and the urgency of the situation of each tenant, so applicants in the most urgent need for housing will be prioritized. Therefore, the number and situation of other applicants who have applied for same apartment have an influence on the apartment offering.

Since we have received state support for constructing affordable housing, there are wealth and income limits we need to consider when selecting tenants.

What is my position in the apartment queue?
POAS does not have apartment queues at all, as all tenant selections are made based on the applicants’ need of an apartment and the urgency of their situation.

I have submitted an application but I have not received any response?
Unfortunately we cannot respond to all applicants, but we will contact you by email if we are able to offer you an apartment.

How can I edit my application?
Housing applications cannot be edited online. If you wish to make changes to your application, you can just submit a new one. Submitting a new application will automatically expire the previous one. Since all tenants are selected based on the urgency of the situation, the submission date of the application does not affect your chances of getting an apartment. The application is valid for three months, so please submit a new application also, if you are still in need of an apartment after three months.

What if I cannot provide the attachments when submitting the application?
No worries, you can still apply for an apartment! Attachments, such as an employment contract or a certificate of a study place, are asked at the latest when we are making the rental agreement. So you can provide your attachments later on. We recommend you to submit your housing application as soon as you know you need a new apartment, even if you do not yet have the necessary attachments. Then we can take a look at your situation already in advance.

I found a nice apartment on your website, how can I go to see it?
The apartment selection shown on our website covers our entire selection of rental apartments, including those that are currently occupied. Unfortunately, vacant apartments are not shown separately.

You will be able to see the apartment after you have received an apartment offer. If the apartment cannot be visited during previous tenancy, you will have the opportunity to accept the offered apartment based on photos and other information provided. So please familiarize yourself with our apartment selection carefully before applying. Photos, layouts, rents and other details of our housing complexes can be found in our apartment selection.

Does making an appointment to POAS office or calling affect my chances of getting an apartment?
Calling or visiting the office will not affect your chances of getting an apartment, as all apartments are rented based on the housing applications, and we will consider the situation of all applicants when offering apartments. You may have to queue for our phone service, especially during busy times. If you want to update your information or tell us more about your housing needs, please submit a new housing application.

How can I improve my chances of getting an apartment?
In addition to the other applicants, the chances of getting an apartment depend on the number of available apartments as well. If you apply for a certain type or size of apartment in a particular building, you may have to wait a long time before that kind of apartment is vacated. If you need an apartment quickly, we recommend that you apply for a wide range of different types of apartments in different areas. For example, if you are looking for an apartment in Hervanta area with a maximum rent of EUR 550 per month, do not limit your application to studio apartments only. In many of our housing complexes, there are also 1-bedroom-apartments in the same price range. Please also note that some of our housing complexes are directed to students only, so in principal we cannot offer an apartment from these complexes to employed applicants. You can find information on these apartments in our apartment selection.

What is the best time of the year to get an apartment?
The number of applicants and vacant apartments varies in different seasons. In the spring and early summer, there are more apartments vacated in relation to the number of applications compared to other seasons. In August-September, there are the most applicants, and all available apartments are rented out quickly. If you are able to schedule your moving later in the fall (October-November) or spring, you may have a better chance of getting an apartment from us.

Before applying, please familiarize yourself with our application instructions, where you will find more information regarding our tenant selections and application process.

Our CEO Timo Jokinen cycles to Paris as part of the Team Rynkeby charity campaign!

Team Rynkeby Tampere team in Helsinki getting ready for the trip. You can find our CEO from the top left corner.

Team Rynkeby is a European charity cycling team. Every summer the teams cycle to Paris to raise money for seriously ill children. Team Rynkeby was founded in 2002, when 11 amateur cyclists associated with Rynkeby Foods A/S decided to cycle to Paris to see the final stage of the Tour de France.

Rynkeby Foods was the main sponsor of their trip, which was also backed by other companies. In fact, the cyclists who joined the world’s first Team Rynkeby team were so accomplished at finding sponsors that, when the team returned to Denmark just over a week later, the team had made € 5,100 profit. Team Rynkeby donated their profits to the children’s cancer unit at Odense University Hospital. A tradition was born.

Throughout most of the year, not only must members be prepared to cycle the 1,200-kilometre trip to Paris, they are also obliged to do what they can to raise money for children with critical illnesses.

All participants in Team Rynkeby cover their own costs for bike, Team Rynkeby bike wear, helmet and hotel, while the project’s main costs are shared between Eckes-Granini, through its brands Rynkeby, God Morgon, Granini, and the collected funds. There will never be more than 12 % of the collected funds spent for administration costs. In 2023, Team Rynkeby donated 9,179 million Euro to organisations that help children with critical illnesses.

POAS donated money for critically ill children

Our CEO Timo Jokinen joined the Team Rynkeby Tampere team cycling to Paris in July 2025. The trip took seven days and covered over 1,200 kilometers. Their trip went well and our CEO could complete the entire journey by bike, without having to ride the maintenance vehicle during the journey.

“I was drawn in by the team spirit, the goal-oriented training, and the opportunity to support a good cause. In addition to getting physical exercise, you get to do important charity work for children. It was a great experience, and I recommend it to everyone!”

Photos: Team Rynkeby Tampere

We supported our CEO in his journey by donating money to the campaign. POAS does not send Christmas cards or gifts to our cooperation partners, since we donate those funds for a better purpose every year. Last Christmas we donated the Christmas money to the Team Rynkeby charity campaign to support critically ill children.

During hot weather we get lot of questions concerning the apartment temperature. We understand it may feel uncomfortable inside, even though apartments are not heated during the summer. The buildings adhere to the building regulations used at the time of their construction, so our buildings don’t have cooling systems. Therefore we are unable to cool down the incoming air. POAS takes care of the room-specific air ventilation, but you can also influence the indoor temperature of your home in many ways. Here are few tips:

  • Avoid using electrical appliances, as those produce heat and thus further warm up the apartment.
For example, heating an oven or sauna will raise the indoor temperature.
  • Keep the heat outside by keeping windows and curtains or possible blinds closed during the day. This will reduce the heating effect of sunlight entering the apartment.
  • Keep the supply air valves open. Although the windows and doors should be kept closed during the hottest hours, make sure air can circulate in the apartment by keeping the supply air valves open. Supply air valves are usually located above windows or near the ceiling.
  • Open windows in the night when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor temperature. Early birds can take advantage of the most efficient time in the early morning, when the air is the coolest after night.
  • Improve the air circulation with a fan. You can get the most out of it by placing it properly and close enough. It’s a good idea to place it near the area where you spend most of your time, for example next to a bed. Fans are not however suitable for continuous use and must not be left unattended.
  • Please note that airing your apartment by leaving the door open to the staircase is forbidden.

Enjoy summer!

Apply now

How are tenants selected?
Tenant selections to all POAS apartments are made considering each applicant’s life situation and the need for an apartment individually. There are no queues or waiting lists, so the submission date of the application does not affect your chances of getting an apartment. We aim to select the tenants and make the rental agreements during January 2025, so you will have enough time to terminate your previous rental contract within the notice period.

Hipposkylänkuja 6 is non-subsidised housing, which means that it has not received any state support for its construction. This affects the apartments’ rents, so the apartments will be rented primarily to employed people, who are under 30 years old when moving in. All POAS apartments intended for young employed people may also be rented for students, depending on the demand and the number of applicants. Read more about tenant selections.

Quality living with good additional services

Hipposkylänkuja 6 meets the requirements of an energy class A. Modern and energy-efficient building offers its residents excellent living comfort: there are a geothermal heating and cooling, solar panels, sauna/co-working facilities, free gym, and an apartment-specific biowaste collection system in the building. High-speed (up to 1000M) POASnet Internet connection is included in the rent!

There are white kitchen cabinets, stylish wood-patterned flooring and connections for both dishwasher and laundry machine in all apartments. The bathroom tile colors vary in different apartments.

There is a free gym for tenants.

The number of parking spaces is limited, and they are rented separately from eParking system. You may have to queue for a parking space. Shared electric car will be available for tenants to rent in fall 2025.

NOTE! Due to a law change, tenants must pay for water according to their own consumption. Tenant makes their own electricity contract.

Advanced apartment-specific biowaste collection

With the patented BER biowaste collection system, the recycling of biowaste is handled directly from the apartment kitchen. Bio-waste is washed through the waste mill to its own separate and ventilated collection tank. In the tank, most of the water is separated from the biowaste and the clarified water can be directed to the sewer network. The underground tank prevents many of the challenges caused by traditional waste containers.
